LOCAL BAND TO PLAY ROCK CONTEST
West Memphis-based rock band Massacre Machine will perform at 8 PM this Sunday night at the Hi-Tone in Memphis as part of the Emergenza International Festival For Up and Coming Bands. Originated in Rome in 1990, Emergenza was developed to allow bands to play to live local audiences and let the fans choose the best of the best. Over the years the popular Festival has spread to more than 11 countries and has garnered the sponsorship of heavy-hitting music industry companies including Ernie Ball, Sennheiser, Crate and Ampeg. Up for grabs to festival winners are touring dates, stage and studio equipment, and the opportunity to be featured on the Emergenza Compilation CD released each year.
Massacre Machine founding member and West Memphis native, lead guitarist Chuck Gordon, along with front man, Marion resident and vocalist Brice Hamrick, bassist Mike Atkinson and percussionist Marvin Morgan, are all very excited about the opportunity of playing to what could become an international audience. It's very exciting to imagine local guys like us getting an all expenses paid trip to Germany to play in the Open-Air International Festival this August, Gordon said.
The Hi-Tone, located on Poplar Ave., in Memphis, across from Overton Park, is the local music scene epicenter for cutting edge live performances, hosting such rare shows as Elvis Costello, Edie Brickell and a constant stream of outstanding performers. Tickets for this all-ages, 6-band event are $15 at the door or can be purchased in advance for $10 from a band member.
